WORKING OF MIRACLES

May 6th, 2008 · No Comments

The gift of working of miracles is exactly that a total miracle and is not by natural means. It is totally supernatural and is another gift from the Holy Spirit. Thus it is impossible for man with his natural senses to understand these miracles and they can only be understood by the spirit man. The word miracle in the Greek means powers. This is exactly what a miracle does; it shows the awesome power of God our Father, the almighty. When we make ourselves available allow the Holy Spirit, we let the awesome power of God flow through us.

The gift of faith and the gift of working of miracles often work with each other. But, there is a major difference between them. The gift of faith takes you through a situation without being harmed. It kept Daniel from being eaten by the lions and saved Paul and the men in the shipwreck in Acts 27. The working of miracles though, actually changes the circumstances. But, the gift of faith and working of miracle do work together. We see this in Exodus 14 where the Red Sea is parted. The working of the miracle was that God caused a strong east wind to come upon the water and divide it. The gift of faith was also needed though. It was what held the walls of water to their left and to their right to stay upright as they were, instead of crashing down on them.

The gift of working of miracles has been in operation since the Old Testament and is still in operation. When Aaron threw down his rod in front the Egyptians and in became a snake in Exodus 7.10 that was a miracle. Elisha divided the water with sweep of a mantle in II Kings 2.9-14, which was a working of a miracle. The plagues that God sent upon Egypt were performed by the Holy Spirit, just like the Holy Spirit performed in the creation of the earth.

New Testament miracles include when Jesus turned the water into wine in John 2.1-11, or when He fed the five thousand and the seven thousand. Because realise it was the Holy Spirit that Jesus let flow through Him that did these things. Jesus did not heal one person; perform one miracle before He was baptized with water by John the Baptist. No, it was not until the Holy Spirit descended upon Him and was given without measure to Him that these things were done. We need the Holy Spirit in our lives, some more than others. But this will never happen unless we open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide us. This is what it means to be led by the Spirit.

You have to let Him take control and have faith in Him and not try to do this yourself. This is what happened to Abraham. He tried to understand with his natural mind how God was going to bring to pass of his son in his old age and in the old age of Sarah. He did not have total faith in it. Instead of listening and having faith in God, he decided to work things out himself. But that was not God’s will and was not the best for Abraham. Well, as we know Abraham and Sarah eventually had Isaac and fulfilled the promise that God had given. But they went through a lot of things that they did not have to, just because they did not have and allow God to work. We make mistakes like this too, but it is important to acknowledge when we make a mistake and get back on the right track.

It is important to realise that the gift of working of miracles is totally supernatural and nothing we can do on our own. All we can do is have faith, believe in God having met all our needs already and be led by the Holy Spirit. Because it is only as the Spirit wills as we see in I Corinthians 12:11. The gifts are given, so we just have to be open to the Holy Spirit to receive them.

Praise God, and be blessed!
