THE PERFECT MAN

May 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Perfection, It something we all try to attain, perhaps even think we are. So the question remains, is perfection possible and can it be attained? The answer is a simple yes. But, what then marks us as being perfect and how can we achieve this? James 3:2 in the Amplified gives insight to the matter:

For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.

This is a remarkable scripture. Not only does it tell us that when we do offend in word, we are perfect. It says that we can curb our entire nature, making our whole bodies go in the direction we want them to. But what is not offending in word? And how do we control our words? Well, first we must understand that it cannot be done by your flesh. You cannot just decide one day you are only going to speak right and never say anything wrong. No, you do not have the authority or self-control to do this.

James 3:8 tells us that the tongue can no man tame; it is unruly evil, full of deadly poison. You can try all you want, but you will at some point slip up, if you are trying to do it yourself. Many of you might be saying if you are speaking wrong you have filled your heart with the wrong things, and this is why you are offending in your words. Matthew 12:34 tells us this: O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

But, like the tongue we cannot make sure ourselves that we are putting the right things into our hearts. Because we are going to be in the world and obviously we are going to see and hear things in the natural that will affect us, if we walk according to the flesh. We will hear certain things, see certain things. Realise that we only have authority over our lives, not others. If somebody is a slave to sin, the Devil is given the authority over that situation. If a Christian dictates what his life is, he has the choice whether he walks in life and blessing or death and cursing.

So we see that we are not in control if we go to someone else’s property. This is exactly what we need to realise, we must stay on our ground. How we do this is being led by the Spirit. You have a planned life by your Father in heaven, which the Devil cannot touch. The Devil and his demons have no authority to put any evil work in your life. When you are led by the Spirit, you become a child of God as it says in Romans 8:14. Realise the Devil cannot touch God. James 1:13 confirms this:

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. You are God’s child when you are led by the Spirit, and the Devil cannot touch you either!

What is so sad about this is that anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Saviour is already perfect! The inner man (your spirit man) is the real you, and Jesus made that man perfect when you accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour. It is not something “you” can try to do. But what is heartbreaking about it, is we think the inside man has to stay exactly where he is. But this is simply not true. You can let this perfect inner man become your outside you now. It takes a total following of the Holy Spirit right away, as soon as He tells you something, but it can be done. Remember, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13).

Understand that when you are led by the Spirit it must be done with a renewed mind. Paul gives us great revelation in regards to this in Romans 7:25: thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

There is only one reason many Christians get away from being the perfect creation God has made them because of the blood of Jesus. They get out of faith, and walk according to the flesh. With the flesh you can never be perfect, if you let you flesh lead it has to serve sin. But if you follow the Holy Spirit, your body can be made alive and you can fully serve Jesus!

Romans 8:11: But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

So be led by the Spirit! In doing so the Holy Spirit will put the right thing in your heart and let them come out of your mouth. Your perfect Spirit man will shine through you. You will become like Jeremiah, and be the candle of the Lord (Proverbs 20:27).

Jeremiah 1:4-9:

4Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,  5Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. 6Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. 7But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. 8Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. 9Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. 10See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

Hallelujah!
