THE NAME

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

 In the natural sense we can have faith in anything we want. We can have faith in finances, our jobs and circumstances. Basically you can have faith in whatever you want in this life. This is where many believers go wrong in their thinking. They feel they have to have faith that is multi-faceted. That their faith must work in all kinds of areas in their lives. They feel they have to have faith in healing, for it to work. They feel they have to have faith in finances to be blessed and this is just simply not true.

The reason for this is that it presents a major problem. It actually gets us looking to the supply, rather than the source. It’s like me going shopping looking to but an item. I am not looking to the place where I am going shopping; I am looking to that item. I really don’t care where I get it from, all I care is that I purchase the item and get it at the cheapest price.

When we get our focus on the supply rather than the source, we look to get what we want the easiest way. We must understand though that this faith is not the God-kind of faith. It is only our kind of faith. This is why many times we do not receive. Not because our faith does not have the capacity to change our lives. But it is because we are so easily wavered on our faith, because we go by what we see. James 1:7-8 clearly states that no man wavering should think that he should receive anything from the Lord.

So, what then is a sure-fire way to receive what you need? Well, understand that the God kind of faith is a gift from the Holy Spirit. That in order for you to possess faith, it is up to you to be led by the Holy Spirit. We clearly see then that we cannot direct where we use this faith. It is the Holy Spirit that directs us in the direction it wants faith to go. So the question is where is the Holy Spirit taking us and what is He using this gift of faith for?

The answer is He is taking us further and further into Jesus. He is not taking us into healing; He’s taking us into Jesus the healer. He not taking us into financial prosperity; He’s taking us into Jesus, the financial provider. He’s not taking us into deliverance; He’s taking us into Jesus, the deliverer. What the Holy Spirit is really doing is taking Him further into Himself. We see that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all one. So really when we are being led by the Holy Spirit, He is just taking us further into God. Further into who you really are.

See it is very important we do not eliminate the middle man. Unlike things in this world, eliminating the middle man does not save you time or money. It just breaks your connection. The only way you receive from heaven is because of the mediator Jesus, no other way. You must go through Him if you are to receive anything from heaven. I really think this is something the church has forgotten.

The reason for this is we do not understand what faith really is. The Greek word for faith is Pistis. The definition of Pistis is persuasion, conviction and credence, calling itself the truth or truthfulness of God. But, what is the truth or truthfulness of God? In John 8:31-32 we see what truth does:

31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

We see here that if we continue in His word, we will know the truth. What is His word? It is Himself:

John 1.1: 1IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.

We see a connection between Jesus saying that it would be unto you according to your faith (Matthew 9:29) and what the Holy Spirit is doing by leading you into the fullness of the God-head. What Jesus is basically saying is the more you know and believe in me, this is what you will receive from me.

Because He is the only thing you have to have faith in, to receive anything that you would ever want. Because He gave you a provision, He gave you His name! We were adopted as sons as it says in Galatians 4:5. And we have taken on the name of Christ Jesus, much the same way a wife takes the name of her husband. The problem is though we do not use this name enough. We don’t understand the power behind this name, Jesus.

This name changes the surroundings, changes the circumstances and puts the miraculous back in Christianity. If we would only use this name, we would see the fullness of God made manifest in the Church. Understand what a name is. It is a reputation, an identity, a title and a standing. A name is an authority or a character. This is what has been given to the believer, if he could only realise this.

Philippians 2:9 shows us the astounding power of the name of Jesus:  9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

We as believers need to realise this astounding fact; all the works of the devil must bow to the name of Jesus. This name was given for us to use for this purpose: To tear down sickness, disease, poverty and for deliverance. John 14:13-14 gives us this revelation, Jesus says:

13And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son.

14[Yes] I will grant [I Myself will do for you] whatever you shall ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM].

It is so simple, yet we miss it. All we have to do is have faith in Jesus, nothing else. He has given us His name to diminish every work of hell; there is nothing we have to do on our own. Rather, we are to do it with Him, right by our side. The early Church had great revelation of this. They used His name profusely and the supernatural works of God were performed. It was by the name of Jesus that sinners were healed, delivered and set-free. Multitudes flocked to the Church, upon seeing these miraculous works, done through the name of Jesus.

We need to get the name of Jesus back into the Church today. We need to fulfill the call Mark chapter 16:17-20:

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

   18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

   19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

   20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Realise the astounding fact of verse 17, in my name they shall cast out demons! We always have Him with us, we are never alone. Recognise when you are using the name of Jesus you are not dealing with the person. You are dealing with the sickness, or demonic spirit. These things do not have a choice in the matter, if you are casting them out in the name of Jesus.

We see this in many cases with Jesus Himself and when His disciples used His name. When Jesus met the man called Legion who had over 2000 demonic spirits in him, they did not have a choice, they had to go. When Paul was travelling and being followed by the fortune teller girl, the demon did not have a choice, it had to come out when Paul used Jesus’ name!

This is a staggering fact, that His name healed many sinners. It is something that is amazing and astounding, yet we are afraid to use it. We need to understand that the name of Jesus cannot fail, and when we are using it neither can we! Understand that it does not require any faith on your part, other than being a believer of Jesus. John 14:13-14 does not mention anything about faith. Just that you should ask, and He will give it to you. Realise though that the abundant life has already been brought. You do not have to ask for healing, finances or deliverance that has already provided.

If you are not experiencing it then it is time not to ask for it in His name, but rather to confirm this fact in His name. If you’re not experiencing healing, say in Jesus’ name I am healed! In Jesus’ I am rich! In Jesus’ name, I am delivered from whatever you need to be delivered from. It’s the power of the name and is something we need to use. We need to get the supernatural works of God back into the church! In Jesus name, amen!
