 Christians must understand the power of the first two commandments and what effect they have in the walk God has planned for us. When Jesus was asked which the greatest commandments were by the scribes, He responded with this answer. Mark 12:30-31: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commanment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Notice Jesus did not pause between the first and the second commandments. Both of these commandments are as important. Because the new covenant or law that God put in place when Jesus went to the cross, was built around them. Both of these commandments represent love. Love is to be the foundation of the church and Christians.

This is what allowed Jesus not to fall into the temptation of Satan. He loved and worshipped the Father. Matthew 4:10 says this: Then Jesus saith unto satan, Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written,Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Jesus ran the devil off with His love for the Father and the written word.

This is why many Christians fall. They do not use the word. When we do not use the word, we do not act like we should. Instead we wonder why there healing hasn’t come, or why they are still broke. Well, it is because the Bible will not work for us, if we miss the first two commandments. You must know and do what your Bible says. You must make it a part of your daily life. Because God does not go by what you say you will do for Him, He goes by what you do! You must do the things that please the Lord. You must also do the things that God asks you to by faith. Because we all know, without faith it is impossible to please him.

It is only when you start loving God and worshipping and praising Him that you start to know Him. It is only when you start loving people and treating them the way you should that you start to walk in the way of the Lord. It’s only when you start doing the first two commandments that the rest of your life will fall into God’s plan for it. Like the scripture says: whatsover a man soweth, that shall he also reap. When you start sowing seeds of love towards people, they will see that. The Bible says this is how the believer will be known, by his or her love. Love for others is how we separate ourselves from the world. It is how we stand out. More importantly, it is how Jesus can stand out in us.

When we love people like we should, we become more like Father in heaven. God’s love for people was so much that He gave His only son. John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

These are the footsteps we are to follow.

Once we start walking in love and serving God, we will no longer have any worries. The devil will have to flee from us, because the devil can’t stand when we worship God. That is why the devil left Jesus in Matthew 4:11. It was because Jesus knew who he was to worship and serve. The devil doesn’t like when we know our rights. So if you would just worship and praise God and put Him first in your life, you would be taken care of. The devil then has no rights and does not want anything to do with a Christian who is worshipping God.

So we must remember! Confess the written word and walk in love. Make sure you tell the devil where his place is and what his rights are. Because it is by your voice of faith, that you get God to move on your behalf!
