THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

May 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

How can you tell if you are living your life for God? That answer is easy, by your fruit.

The Bible says in Luke 6:43-45 that no good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

Galatians 5.19-21 shows us what the fruit of the flesh is: 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

We sometimes wonder why nobody wants to deal with us. Often the reason for it is our fruit.

People do not keep eating something that is sour to them. They want something that edifies and nurtures them. In the world we live in today, there is always a want or a need for something.

What they need is Jesus. Sometimes though people do not want to talk about Jesus or hear anything to do with the Bible. So how do we bring Him into their lives? The fruit of the Holy Spirit can manifest Jesus though us. He can be seen in our actions, words and deeds that we do in our everyday life.

So how can we manifest these fruits of the Spirit in our lives? By giving our life totally to Jesus and letting the Holy Ghost lead our lives. We must lose ourselves, so that Jesus can be seen through us. We will know we are letting the Holy Spirit lead when the fruit begins producing in our lives. The Holy Spirit will produce things that we would not be able to do on our own natural human ability.

Galatians 5.22-23 shows us what the fruits of the spirit are:

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

This is how you can tell if you’re in the right walk with God, or if you are off track. If you are not walking with all these components intact, you are not in the total will of God. It takes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, to fulfil what God has called you to do. This is the fruit you are supposed to be providing to others. They may never read the Bible or go to church. You may be the only glimpse of Jesus they get. So make sure you are being led by the Spirit. Make sure that the fruits of the spirit can be made manifest in your life.
