A Father is someone you can always run to. He is the one who can fix any problem. He is a friend, but more importantly he is a leader. We look to him for advice, guidance and direction in our lives. He is our greatest coach and knows exactly how to get us to our goals. With just one word he inspires us to achievement. Yes, the Father knows exactly what to say. He sacrifices the love that may be given to him, for our own success. All a Father ever wants, is to see his child succeed. He is our greatest encourager and our number one supporter. He gets into the battles, and fights them with us. This is the man we call Dad.
The problem is we look at God the Father from this same perspective of having a human element. We underestimate Him by putting Him in this same box. We do this by feeling unworthy, like we are to far gone for Him to love us anymore. It is very important that we really understand exactly who our Father in heaven is, so that we can experience the freedom we really have.
I often wondered why the Devil would ever believe he could overthrow God. Why would he try to overthrow someone who is all powerful, all knowing and omnipotent? This would be crazy to even consider, but the devil did. We must understand why the devil would do such a thing. Why after the time he spent with God, would he ever think his objective could be attained? The devil must have thought that God missed it sometimes. That He did not always know what was going on. The devil must have thought that he had seen some cracks in God’s armour, to ever consider being able to overtake Him as God of the universe.
But, we much like the devil need to realise something. When God asked where Adam and Eve were in the garden, it wasn’t because He didn’t know. It was because He wanted to have a relationship with His creation. Much like a Father in the natural, God must get down to our level. A Father when talking to his young child must speak to the child in a way that his child will understand. He doesn’t need the conversation with his child, but rather he wants it. He talks to his child in a way that he can understand him, because he loves his child. We need to understand God works the same way, only on a much deeper level.
When God speaks to you it is because He wants interaction with you. Because He already knows, there is nothing that you are going to tell Him that He doesn’t know. What He wants more than anything is a relationship with you. He wants you to be His Son or Daughter and for you to be His friend. This is His tenderness being shown when He speaks to you and asks you questions. What He really wants is for you to want to spend time with Him, because more than anything else He wants to spend time with you.
Matthew 11:27 shows us that the Father is represented by Jesus. Father God’s demeanour, sincerity, compassion and love were truly exuded by Jesus in His walk on earth with us. He is the exact representation of our Father in heaven. What we really need to understand is that He experiences things on a much deeper level than you or I. His sorrow is deeper than our sorrow. His joy is greater than our joy, and His love is greater than our love.
When we think we are unworthy and run away because we have a sense of guilt, all we really do is hurt Him more. No matter how much you think you hurt, God hurts for you even more. My Bible says that He is willing that none should perish. That is why He is so deeply saddened when you do not choose Him. All God ever wanted was a family. And whether we want to believe it or not, a family is at the heart of our own desires.
When Astronauts are asked what they missed the most, it’s not TV; it’s not their money or anything else. The answer is always: I missed my family and my friends. Just think, when you lie on your death-bed, what will you answer when posed the question: what will you miss the most?
It is about time, that we understand just how important we are to the great Father in heaven. It is His viewpoint of ourselves that will really free us from our box. If we could only see ourselves the way God sees us, we would live triumphantly in victory everyday. Psalm 139 gives us some great insight towards the way God feels about us:
1O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
13For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
17How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
He never stops thinking about you. And it says in the Bible that His thoughts towards you are good. They are plans for health. They are plans to prosper. They are plans for you family to grow and be strong in the Lord.
There have been many plans that have been planted in my heart. But, I have often wondered why me? Why me? I asked God why I was chosen. Why should I be so fortunate to do all these things for Him? His response astounded me. He said you are no more special than any other of my Sons or Daughters. And I have put many plans in many hearts. You will not accomplish this because you are special, but rather because you make me special.
That is the key we seem to forget as Christians. We see when Jesus was hanging on the cross just how special the relationship was between Him and His Father was when he cried out: My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? We need to get to this place with Him. We need to have our relationship with our Father in heaven mean this much. If you could only understand how much He means to you.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
