What are your motives? What moves you to take the actions that you make? Here’s the thing, if we are doing things for the wrong reasons, we are going to reap the wrong rewards. Galatians 6:7 shows us very clearly that we make a mockery of God if we expect to reap good and perfect rewards from our selfish actions. And, the Bible also tells us that when we do things publicly, so that others will notice us, we have our reward already.
Many people “feel” that they have a call of God on their lives. This is true; in fact we all have a specific place and a specific calling of God on our lives. But as we start out on our calling we sometimes get off on the wrong track. What I mean by this is we try to make bigger dreams than what we have been given. Instead of just going out and accomplishing the things that we have been given to do, we tell ourselves that we are going to do more.
We being to make our own agenda and slowly begin to put it in front of the simple plan that has been given to us by our Father in heaven. Yes, He does have big plans and big purposes for us. But, we must be first faithful in a little, to reap the responsibility of being faithful in much. We need to understand that when we do not do the simple things God has asked us to do; we are saying His agenda is not important.
We begin to make our plan for “His purpose” seem as though it is much more effective in accomplishing what needs to be done. And this is not done on purpose; it is done by the deception that we allow in our own lives. I was once talking to a man about his child and he explained to me that his child was not being recognised for his hard work and effort. This is sadly what happens to us and we allow it to wreck our lives. It tears us up on the inside; it makes us resent the people that are not recognising us to the point that we actually have hatred towards these people.
Obviously this is not a Christian in his finest moment. So how did this man get here? How did someone “called” of God get to the point of needing to be recognised? The truth is we all long for recognition, we want to be appreciated. We want to be desired as someone who can not be lived without. So we try to put ourselves in these positions of being “needed” by others. The rude awakening that no one really “needs” you may never happen in your lifetime, but if it does it is a very painful realisation.
Life will go on, with or without you and that’s a fact. And even if you were recognised by people, it will not matter. People are quick to forget, they have their own agenda and most are fuelled by their own selfish desires. So the question is why do we seek praise from these people? Why do we want to be recognised by them? The Bible talks about seeking the praise of men rather than God in John 12:43.
See men forget your triumphs. They forget your accomplishments. Most of your victories here on earth will go to the grave with you and will no longer be remembered. And, even if you are one of the lucky ones to have had a person sincerely appreciate what you did for them; it will go to the grave with them.
There is one and only one that will remember what you have done and accomplished for eternity. He will forever remember what you did for Him. He is your Father in heaven. The one you are to give glory to in all that you do. The one you are supposed to represent and be an ambassador for. He is the only one who will remember. He is the only one who, on the deepest level wants you and needs you. You are His child and because of that you represent Him.
The question is: are you making your Dad proud? What will you say when He asks what you did with what He gave you? When your standing before that throne will your answer be something that you proudly proclaim? Or will it be a sorrowful meeting between you and your Father? Because this is what it means in Revelation 21 when God says I will wipe your tears. We will be crying, because we will fully realise what we could have done and what authority we had in our lives.
Know that only what you do for God will last, the rest will be burned away. When you stand before the throne your life will represent what you did for Him, no more, no less. Do not deceived, God will not be mocked, you will reap what you have sown.
