The gifts of the Spirit are so important and add nothing but the blessing of God to our lives. They are a gift from our comforter the Holy Spirit and have so much power and authority. They destroy all the works of the devil and break apart all bondages he tries to set on us. They are God’s weapons and fight the war that often unseen by many Christians. But the sad part is most Christians do not even know what the gifts of the Holy Spirit are. I have heard it said that you could get all the pastors in America together and ask them what the nine gifts of the Spirit are and half would not be able to tell you. Then you could ask where the gifts of the Spirit are found and you would be left with only about five percent of America’s preachers. This is really sad; because it even tells us in I Corinthians 12 that these gifts are something we are not to be ignorant of.
Understand that there is nothing that makes the devil happier, when we are ignorant to these gifts. They are supernatural power that open up and destroy all the works of the devil. The gifts open all areas that he uses for deception. They make it crystal clear who, what and the end result of what we are dealing with. They are power and are something we are actually told to covet (I Corinthians 12.31).
You must be delivered from yourself before the gifts of the Spirit can fully flow through you and operate freely. Being delivered from yourself takes the fire of God and it is the fire of God that will burn all the worldly desires out of you. Praying in tongues is what allows this to happen. Because for these gifts to operate freely, you have to be open to them and act upon them. Because just because they are operating doesn’t mean they manifest themselves. You must act upon them and let the Holy Spirit manifest these gifts through you. Remember, the Holy Spirit is a perfect gentlemen, he will never force you to do anything. It will be your choice if you wish to follow Him or not though. It is as the scripture says who the Son set free is free indeed (John 8.36).
If you wish to have these gifts not only operate but also manifest themselves in your life you must be hungry after the Spirit. Romans 8.4-11 tells us this:
4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
I don’t think most Christians realise just of how important it is to be led by the Spirit. Because understand this very clearly. The devil cannot rob you; if you are being led by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is of God and the devil obviously cannot touch God. James 1.13 says this:
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. So we see the devil cannot bring anything against us or our Father God.
Let’s now get into the introduction of the gifts of the Spirit and separate the gifts into categories so we can better understand them. There are nine gifts of the Spirit, three of them say something. Three of them do something and three of them reveal something. The three that say something are prophecy, tongues and interpretation of tongues. The three that do something are the gift of faith, working of miracles and the gifts of healing. The three that reveal something are the gifts of revelation. They are the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and discerning of spirits.
Now let’s go to I Corinthians 12 the teaching on the gifts of the Spirit:
1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. (That means dumb)
2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb (see) idols, even as ye were led.
3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. Every man, that means you! And it is given to you to profit withal, that means in every area of your life.
8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. Remember, it is only as the spirit wills, not as you will. He is the one who works the gifts through you, but it is your job to allow it.
12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14For the body is not one member, but many.
15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.
25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
Realise you need all the gifts in your life. No, you may not need the gift of healing right now; no you may not need the gift of faith right now. But at some point in your life you will. Before you go out of this life you will be in need of each gift at some point in your life. Yes some gifts are more miraculous than others. But they are all important to God and all of them should be important to you. They are like children to a Father. Yes, the son is big and strong, but the Father’s little girl is just as important.
26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
God Bless!
