IF YOU DOUBT, YOU’RE OUT!

Doubt, we all know that it is the faith killer. But what causes doubt? Wondering if the word of God is true or not, or if it was meant for us personally. Well, what causes us to wonder, to stagger on God’s word? Time! Time kills the word of God faster than anything else. Yet, most Christians always seem to throw it into the mix. Wanting a healing right now, finances taken care of right now! But we can see from this kind of faith (which is really not faith), that they have not received the true gospel. It will be a sad day when we go to heaven and realise that Jesus had taken care of everything already on the cross, some two-thousand years ago.

Realise that it is your faith that goes out and gets what Jesus has already given you. When you are hoping to receive something from God, what you are really saying that what Jesus did was not enough.

Obviously you do not feel this way and the reason you say it is because you have thrown the human element of time into it.

A story I heard once gives a great example of this. There were two photography classes in Harvard University. Both classes were going to give each student one picture to keep, with the rest of the pictures going overseas for an expose. The classes were exactly the same with one exception. In one class the student had to decide what picture he wanted to keep, that day. No exceptions, no exchanges, you pick it and your stuck with it. In the other class though, you could pick a picture and within three days, exchange it for another. Well, many in the second class that did have the option of exchanging their picture; did exchange their picture for another. But, after a period of time, they went back to these students and asked them a question. Did they like the picture that they had? Or would they rather have one of the one they had sent away?

Well, to their surprise, all that had to make a decision that first day and could not exchange their pictures were still all very happy. They liked the one they had chosen and would not exchange it for any other they had taken. But, in the second class where they had been given time to make a decision, the results were very different. Many in the class did not like their pictures and would have loved to exchange them for other ones.

The moral here is the first class did not have time to doubt. But the second did, and boy did they ever doubt. They weren’t sure of themselves in those first three days, and they still were not sure of themselves! But that is exactly what time is like; it is a cancer that will contain you if you don’t watch it. It gets a hold of you, and does not easily let go. See when you get into time, you have just stepped out of faith. Because faith doesn’t ware a watch, our Bibles tell us in Hebrews 11.1 that faith is now! Not in a minute, or tomorrow or even next week, now!

But, if you have been captured by time, don’t feel bad it has happened to the best of believers.

It happened to John the Baptist in prison. In Luke 7:20 John sent two of his disciples to see if Jesus was “the one” or if they should look for another? I guess John figured if Jesus was the one, He should set him free, and do it right now. But John was just bending to the pressure of time. Martha let time control her when her brother Lazarus had died.

John 11:49: Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

But the examples we should take are those of Noah and Abraham. Who did not doubt even when a great deal of time had passed. Where in Romans 4:18 it tells us that Abraham against hope, believed in hope. This is the example we are to follow! So don’t let the Devil deceive you and get you to walk in the flesh. Because all he’s got is time and deception and they are only in his world. So stay out of his world and walk in the one Jesus made for you by the blood He shed!
