A WORD OF WISDOM

May 6th, 2008 · No Comments

That is all it is. Not wisdom, just a word of wisdom. We must be clear on this, because we will deceive ourselves otherwise. The Holy Spirit only gives us a word, because God is a faith God. Hebrews 11:6 makes it very clear without out faith, it is impossible to please Him. Understand that faith acts on a word of wisdom.

A word of wisdom is for the future. It is revealed to us to show what we should do in order that our future aligns right with the will of God. This is not something we have to obey though. You must choose to obey. Understand that there is never a “have to do” in Christ. When He set you free by what He did on the cross, He set you free. He will never make you. So if something goes wrong don’t blame Him. Look in the mirror at yourself, because you’re the one who missed it. You are you’re own worst enemy, nobody else. Not the devil or his demons, not your family or friends, you! When you prayed the prayer of salvation, you were set free and you have made the decisions since then. Whether you decided to make your decisions by your flesh or by you born again Spirit, will determine where you will go.

We understand then that the responsibility falls on you to yield and act upon a word of wisdom. What the word of wisdom does is reveal God’s plan. But as I said before, it is up to us to step out on faith for the unfolding of it in the natural. The word of wisdom will not be something totally unexpected or surprise you either. The reason for this is that it is really only a conformation of something that has already been put in your heart. You were made and planned for a purpose and have been hard wired to carry out God’s purpose for your life. Realise that you will only be truly be happy and fulfilled when you are walking out this plan. Because this is the only plan you were meant for.

The word of wisdom can come through six different ways. It cam come through an audible voice, a vision, a dream, by the vocal gift of prophecy, tongues and interpretation of tongues and through the still small voice. When you receive a word of wisdom it will not go against anything in the word. If the Bible says something contrary to what you received, what you received was not a word of wisdom. It was a lie from the devil. Do not believe or act upon anything this liar has to say or you will end up getting hurt.

Noah in the Old Testament received a word of wisdom in Genesis 6. The word of wisdom given to Noah was to build an ark. It took many years for this word of wisdom to come to pass, but all that time Noah just kept building that ark, walking by faith. It had never rained until God sent the flood. But, rain it did when God sent the flood. For forty days and forty nights, it did nothing but rain. Noah must have had a very close relationship with the Lord, to keep building that ark and preaching to the people that a flood was coming. They laughed and laughed, but the flood did come and they were not laughing anymore.

This may happen to you when the Holy Spirit gives you a word of wisdom. People may laugh, tell you that you are crazy. They may tear you down and make a mockery of you. But, this is why it’s so important to have a close relationship with your Father in heaven. Because then no matter what, you will stand on the word of God and not waver.

Elisha also received a word of wisdom in II Kings 6.8-12. Elisha was being told by the Holy Spirit what the King of Syria was saying in his bedroom in regards to the war that was going on between Syria and Israel.

Elisha knew every move the Syrians were going to make, because he knew the Kings plans of attack. The Syrians were struck blind, being easily defeated and were obviously no match for Elisha and his God.

The word of wisdom also often works with the word of knowledge. These gifts are all from the same spirit, so they will often work together. That is why it is important to understand how the gifts work and what they do. Then we can distinguish what gift is in use. When John was on the Island of Patmos in the book of Revelation, the Holy Spirit first gave John both a word of knowledge and a word of wisdom. John was given a word of knowledge regarding what condition the Churches were in, then a word of wisdom concerning what the Churches were to do in the future.

In Acts 9:10-16 we see the gift of the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge working together again. The apostle Paul would not have been converted without them. What if it was you that was told what Ananias was told to do? Would you have obeyed? Would Paul have been saved and wrote half the New Testament? This is why it is so important to yield ourselves and be led by the Spirit. Because many souls will be saved because of it and we will leave a bigger impact than we ever imagined.
