A WORD OF KNOWLEDGE

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

A word of knowledge is exactly that; just a word. It is just the part of knowledge God wants you to know.

It is not profound knowledge of the Bible, just a word of knowledge. We must make sure we call the gifts what they are or we will get them confused. A word of knowledge will only give you knowledge on something that is in the past, or on things that regard the present. Never will the word of knowledge tell you something about the future though; this is a word of wisdom.

We must use our faith in a word of knowledge. We must believe in the word of knowledge that was given to us and act upon it. We just have to be open to the Holy Spirit. We must let Him have total freedom to flow through us as He wills and obey what He tells us to do. We could have an incredible blessing or we could bless someone else, if we would only act upon His word right away. Understand very clearly that you must act right away! Because now faith is, not in a minute, not tomorrow, now! Because even if you only wait for a minute to decide to do what the Holy Spirit has told you to do, your faith will deteriorate. Just by second guessing, you throw yourself in to a world of doubt and unbelief. Yes, you may be acting on the word that was given to you. But, you will not fully be sure, because you second guessed it from the start.

That is why it is so important act right away, because you don’t want to miss it. Don’t let the Devil start getting you worried whether you will know it is the Holy Spirit giving you the word either. You will know it is from God. John 10.4-5 says:

4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

You will know God’s voice, so don’t follow a voice you do not know. It is very simple, so don’t let your flesh complicate it. As I said before the word of knowledge is the part of knowledge God wants you to know about past events or present ones. The word of knowledge can have many benefits. It can recover lost property, it can bring revelation and it will diminish the works of Satan. We will see all these demonstrated by scripture, so there will be no doubt. And don’t worry if your Church doesn’t believe or teach on them. You are to be a Bible believer, not a certain kind of Church believer.

Also I would like to say a word of knowledge is supernatural, it comes from the Holy Spirit and bears witness with your spirit. It is in direct connection with the Bible and never goes against the word. If it does, that is how you can tell it is from Devil! It also many times operates with the gift of the word of wisdom, as we will see.

The word of knowledge can come a few different ways. It can come through tongues and interpretation of tongues, prophecy, an angel or through that still small voice. In I Samuel 9.18-20 we see Samuel given a word of knowledge in regard as the condition of Saul’s Father’s donkeys.

18Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer’s house is. 19And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me to day, and to morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.

20And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father’s house?

The lost property was accounted for, by the word of knowledge received by Samuel. The word of knowledge can show you to find anything, including people. Here it is used to find Saul:

I Samuel 10.21:  21When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

Jesus had the Spirit without measure, so obviously He had all nine gifts operating in Him. Although we never read of Him speaking in tongues or interpreting, we do not doubt that He could have. Here we see Him letting the word of knowledge work through Him. When He is talking to the woman at the well, He was able to tell the woman “all she ever did” as She put it. John 4.14-18:

14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. 16Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

Jesus was able to give the woman great revelation because of the word of knowledge. Because of it she believed that He was the Christ, and went to tell the men in the city. We see Elijah receive a word of knowledge through the still small voice in I Kings 19.11-15:

11And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

15And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.

The word of knowledge is a powerful gift. To have it manifest in our lives though, we must be open to the Spirit. Because it is only as He wills that any of the gifts will manifest themselves. The word of knowledge is very important. It can tell you what to do right now, allowing you to overcome the works of the Devil.
